Timing

We will be operating a dib and go system – when you are ready, just turn up at the start line – your dibber will be scanned for safety and timing purposes and then you can set off.

Road Safety

PLEASE BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL ON THE ROADS AND BE COURTEOUS TO CARS AND OTHER ROAD USERS. All the roads on both routes remain open to traffic throughout the event so please be careful especially on the single track sections where some blind bends demand a very cautious approach. There are some very steep climbs and descents, especially on the Mor route.  Take care on these please.

Food Stations

There are food stations at the following locations:

Mor route – Lochinver (48km), the junction of the Drumbeg road and the A894 at 75km and Ledmore Junction at 110km

Beag route – Lochinver (48km) & Ledmore Junction (78km)

At each food station there will be water, bananas and tray bakes as well as track pumps and a few spare tubes – please be careful entering and leaving the food stations as this is often a time when cyclists “interact”!

YOU MUST ALSO ENSURE THAT YOU START WITH SUFFICIENT DRINKS ON BOARD AND SOME FOOD IN YOUR BACK POCKET!

First Aid

First Aid this year is being provided by the Coast Guard – we sincerely hope that the weather conditions don’t reach the stage where the lifeboat will need to be launched to rescue cyclists!!

Marshals

As always we rely heavily on our marshals to make these events work so please do as they ask.  They are there to help and to keep you safe. If you have a problem please find an organiser – Alasdair, Linda or David – to discuss this with.

Emergency Vehicles

During the event it is extremely important that any emergency vehicles can respond to a call out as quickly as possible.  If you hear an emergency vehicle approaching from either in front or behind, while you are on a single-track road, you MUST dismount and stand off the road until the vehicle has passed you. Whatever they are responding to it is more important than adding a couple of minutes to your time.

The Highway Code

Please observe the spirit of the Highway Code at all times.  RIDE NO MORE THAN 2 ABREAST at any time and in some places only single file – use your judgment.

Let cars past at the earliest opportunity, at most within 3 passing places but preferably much sooner.

The Finish

Your dibber will be scanned at the finish to record your time and this also acts as an important safety procedure – this lets us know who is back and who is still out there.

You must ‘dib’ at the finish.  You must ensure that you hand in your dibber at the end.  You will then immediately receive a print out of your time, race certificates will be available online with results after the event.

There will be hot food and drinks available in the Village Hall at the finish as well as a professional massage service (for donations to charity).

Our Sponsors

We’d like to thank our wonderful sponsors AJG Parcels Ltd (http://www.ajgparcels.com/ ) again for their generous support and sponsorship of all of this year’s Hands On Events Sportives.  Please help us help our sponsors.  If you could go on to the AJG Parcels Facebook Page and ‘Like’ it that would be greatly appreciated – https://www.facebook.com/ajgparcels?fref=ts
